France
France is probably the most visited country in the world. Its capital - Paris, is the most famous city in the world. I've been to Paris and unfortunately, because of the high expectations, it got me quite disappointed and I didn't even feel like to write about it. The architecture was beautiful in places, but the entire city seemed gray, concrete, cold and dirty. I don't understand why it's called the city of love. If you want to see some really romantic places, I would visit Tbilisi (Georgia), Gjirokaster (Albania) or even Dubrovnik (Croatia). I've described all of them on this blog.
Now it's time to say something nice about France - last winter, we had a free weekend and decided to go down south to see some sun. The flight to Nice was almost free so we couldn't miss such a chance. The city turned out to be beautiful, sunny, friendly, colorful and, because it was winter, cheaper and more authentic without the crowds of tourists. The sea was stunning as usual and the little villages so charming. Visit also Eze and Antibes - I fell in love with them, especially with Eze, where you can admire spectacular sea views. Next town I want to see is Menton - planning to go there this winter. I'm also keen to visit the north of the country, the mountains and the island of Corsica.
A few months ago we had a chance to visit the famous all over the world French Riviera. I usually prefer way more off the beaten path places (like my favorite Balkans or Caucasus) but the winter sale of airplane tickets to Nice (I'll also share my thoughts on Nice soon) was so tempting that only a fool wouldn't have taken advantage of it. Also, the winter was coming to an end and the only way to escape the cold, grey and gloomy landscapes of Northern Europe was to head south. During the few days along the French Riviera, we decided to skip the most popular cities - Cannes and St. Tropez and look for something more quiet, local and charming. We came across the little, beautiful towns of Antibes and Eze. In this part I'll show you Antibes and in the second, the magnificent Eze - a hill town which was my favorite in the entire French Riviera.
The French Riviera needs no introduction. It is known world wide. Cannes, St. Tropes or Monaco are famous as a summer destination for many celebrities. We, in turn, decided o take a different approach. Instead of visiting the obvious, popular spots, we explored the region to find something unique. And we discovered that this beautiful coast hides surprising gems - magnificent little towns, virtually unknown, without hordes of tourists. One of such town is Eze - beautifully situated on a steep hill that overlooks the intensely blue Mediterranean sea.
